New-look Woods hit Petersfield for four

After two postponements in the past week, Northwood got back into Evo-Stik Southern League action this afternoon with a 4-0 defeat of Petersfield Town at Chestnut Avenue in a Central Division fixture.

And the Woods did it with a new-look side following a number of departures, along with injuries and a suspension. Boss Mark Burgess gave debuts to four players, and one of them, full-back Andrew White, gave Northwood a sixth minute lead.

Skipper James Burgess netted the second from the penalty spot after Myles Stephenson had been upended, and the striker himself notched number three shortly before the interval whistle. Substitute Fabian Brown then wrapped up the scoring with a lovely left-foot strike near the end. The match report and photos are here. The matchday programme, both printed and electronic, can still be ordered online from our publications section.

Woods' Under 21s went down 4-0 at Ascot United in a Suburban League fixture.

Spanish keeper replaces Montel - on World Cup duty

Goalkeeper Montel Joseph having been called up to the Trinidad & Tobago Under 20 side for their World Cup qualifying campaign in Costa Rica, Northwood manager Mark Burgess was delighted to recently sign the experienced 27-year-old Borja Loeches-Teixeira.

Borja played for Haringey Borough, Metropolitan Police and Walton & Hersham last season after a couple of years of not playing since coming to the country from Spain. Previously based in Madrid, he spent time with Internacional de Madrid, CS Dosa, AD Fundacion and Villaverde over a period of four seasons.

Burgo snaps up five players

With the departure from Chestnut Avenue of some of his squad, Woods boss has been busy recently, and five new players have linked up with the club.

Two arrived from Hitchin Town; Conor Clarke is a 21-year-old midfielder who started out at Hemel Hempstead Town and has since played for Broxbourne Borough, Hoddesdon Town and St Margaretsbury. And young forward Kieran Barnes has come through the youth teams at Hitchin; both players join Northwood for an initial month’s loan.

The Woods have also added to their attacking options with two young players joining from Hendon: Mickey White, who has also been involved at Boreham Wood, and Malachy McGovern have made first team appearances for the Ryman Premier side. And reserves midfielder Tope Olasanoye has also signed first team forms.

Three players departing Woods

There have been some departures from the Woods’ playing squad recently. Striker Ismael Ehui wasn’t getting a regular place in the side after his return from Hayes & Yeading and he joined Chalfont St Peter this week, whilst Frankie Jones has transferred to Hayes & Yeading United.

Luke Heneghan renewed a previous interest in a move to Kempston Rovers last week and has now completed his transfer to them. And Callum Wright is expected to complete a transfer to Hanwell Town before the weekend. News of incoming players to follow later…

Woods' match at Royston is off

Northwood's Evo-Stik Southern League fixture this evening away to Division One Central leaders Royston Town has been postponed as the Garden Walk pitch is frozen.

Woods' Under 21s Suburban League Plate fixture at North Greenford is also off for a similar reason.

Barton Rovers game is postponed

The Woods' Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central trip to Barton Rovers this afternoon was postponed as the Sharpenhoe Road playing surface was frozen following low overnight temperatures.

The Under 21s' Suburban League fixture against Berkshire outfit Eversley & California at Chestnut Avenue was also postponed.

Next up for Mark Burgess' side is an away game at leaders Royston Town on Tuesday evening, when the Under 21s are also scheduled to be in action; they have a Suburban League Plate fixture at North Greenford.

Uxbridge take the local derby points

Northwood's disappointing recent run of results extended to just one win in ten outings this evening, when they went down 2-1 in their Evo-Stik Southern League local derby clash with Uxbridge at Chestnut Avenue.

Uxbridge went ahead just after the half-hour mark and extended their advantage on 65 minutes through ex-Wood Wayne Carter. James Budden's 84th minute goal raised the hopes of the home supporters that a repeat of Saturday's comeback might be on the cards, but the Reds held on for the win they merited over the 90 minutes. The match report will be online in due course.

Woods recover from three-goals deficit

The Woods looked down and out at half-time in this afternoon's Evo-Stik Southern League game against Beaconsfield Sycob at Chestnut Avenue, but stormed back to earn a share of the points in a 3-3 draw.

Beaconsfield had been on a tremendous run in Division One Central recently, with eight wins in nine outings, and they were three goals ahead today at half-time. It appeared to be game over for Northwood, but Mark Burgess' side showed tremendous spirit to battle their way back into it.

Gradi Milenge headed home from a free-kick with just under half-hour left, then Louis Bircham hit home a cracking goal, and with nine minutes left he notched his second - and the equaliser - with a neat effort which dipped under the bar. There was still time for more action; first Woods were refused a clear penalty, then soon after Sycob were awarded a twelve-yard kick - only for new home keeper Borja Loeches-Teixeira to dive to his left to save (pictured above). The match report and photos are here.

Single-goal League Cup exit

Northwood went out of the Southern League Cup at the hands of Chalfont St Peter last night, going down by the only goal in a third round tie at Chestnut Avenue.

The visitors went ahead through Kofi Lockhart-Adams two minutes before half-time, and the Woods were unable to recover that deficit after the break.

Northwood lose to the Ducks

The Woods went down to a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Aylesbury United in an Evo-Stik Southern League fixture this afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, the home side went ahead two minutes after the restart through Troy Witter, and Sonny French got the second in the 83rd minute. It was little more than a consolation when Gradi Milenge headed home his first goal for the Woods four minutes into stoppage time.

The match report and photos are here. Woods' Under 21s' Suburban League game against London Colney was postponed as the Chestnut Avenue pitch was waterlogged.

Late equaliser earns Woods a point

It took a late equaliser from James Budden to earn Northwood an Evo-Stik Southern League point this afternoon, as they drew 1-1 with old rivals Hanwell Town at Chestnut Avenue.

The visitors had gone ahead through Dean Allen early in the second half, and Town looked to be taking all three points until Budden headed home the leveller two minutes into stoppage time; it was the central defender's first goal of the season.

The match report and photos are here.
