A point for Woods in 3-3 draw

A very depleted Northwood side took a point from a 3-3 draw after a spirited performance in their Evo-Stik League South, East fixture at Thame United this evening.

Wilson Chingoka netted his first goal for the club with a great angled strike from wide on the right on 23 minutes, but two headed goals in a few minutes put Thame in front at the break.

Woods equalised in the 64th minute when a strike from Mahlondo Martin was pushed onto the bar only for Chingoka to follow up and head home the loose ball. Then Lynton Goss put the home side back in front, only for Mahlondo Martin to sweep in Isaac Olorunfemi’s cross to level again within a minute. Then in the final minute Thame were awarded a penalty – but the kick hit the crossbar so the game ended all-square. The match report is here.

Single goal defeat for Northwood

An early goal decided this afternoon's Evo-Stik League South, East clash against Aylesbury at Chestnut Avenue, the visitors taking all three points from a disappointing encounter.

There were debuts in  the Northwood side for defender Tom Gilbey and midfielder George Lutaaya, who was in the Uganda national squad earlier this year. But Woods struggled to get going after Aylesbury player-manager Brian Haule volleyed his side ahead in 11 minutes, then a few minutes later the home side lost top scorer Jermaine Osei with a hamstring injury. The match report and photos are here.

Woods lose to four second half goals

Four second half goals meant that Northwood ended up well-beaten in this afternoon's Evo-Stik League South fixture away to AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

But in a bigger blow, young defender Pat Adamson was seriously injured in the closing stages of the game, and a hospital scan later confirmed that he suffered a broken leg. We wish Pat all the best for a speedy recovery.

The first half saw the home side dominate, and Woods keeper Brendan Hazlett made a couple of fine saves to keep them out, whilst Northwood were occasionally dangerous on the break. But after the break, Diamonds upped the pressure and netted four times in a 25 minutes spell. The match report and photos are here.

Manager Simon Lane commented afterwards: "It was a tough day for us, and Diamonds punished each individual mistake in the second half. In my opinion, they will go on to win the title. Best wishes to Pat Adamson on his recovery from the broken leg today."

New first team coach for Northwood

After helping out Manager Simon Lane whilst coach Jake Heracleous was unavailable recently, Rob Patwell has now joined the management team permanently to work alongside both Simon and Jake.

Rob was assistant manager at Waltham Forest and Barkingside while enjoying a very successful spell in a similar role with New Salamis, who won the FA Sunday Cup in 2016. He is a qualified coach at both football and boxing, as well as holding qualifications in sports psychology and counselling. Rob has also scouted for Leicester City - and played for Northwood reserves back in 2004-05.

We hope he enjoys his time at Northwood!

Woods take a point at Barton Rovers

In a game of two penalties, Northwood's Evo-Stik League South, East fixture away to Barton Rovers ended in a 1-1 draw this afternoon.

Rovers' debutant goalkeeper Matt Finlay kept the Woods at bay in the opening, as he made a couple of good saves to keep the visitors at bay.

But Northwood did take the lead two minutes into the second period, Jermaine Osei being felled in the box before picking himself up to despatch the penalty. Woods held that slender advantage until the 86th minute when the referee awarded Barton a spot-kick for an apparent handball, Rovers netting the leveller. The match report and photos are here.

Northwood stretch winning run to four games

The Woods chalked up their fourth successive Evo-Stik League South, East victory at Northwood Park this afternoon when they defeated Kempston Rovers 3-0.

And Simon Lane's side raced into a two-goal lead within the opening six minutes; Mahlondo Martin crossed from the right for Jermaine Osei to sweep the ball home from close range. Then within sixty seconds, Harry Newman's left-wing cross was neatly despatched by the same player and Northwood were two-up.

Kempston had plenty of possession during spells through the game, but the Woods defended strongly when they needed to, and the clinching third goal arrived on 76 minutes when Harry Newman cut the ball back from the left flank and Lewis Ochoa rifled home from 18 yards. The match report and photos are here.
