Four clubs could be promoted from Div. 1 South-East
At yesterday's Evo-Stik Southern League AGM in Southampton, it was confirmed that the pyramid restructure for 2018/19 means that there could possibly be four teams promoted from Division One South-East (renamed from Central) at the end of the upcoming season.
The top two will definitely be promoted and then the third-placed side with the best record in all the six Step 4 leagues will also gain automatic promotion.
Play-offs will then take place between the next four sides placed either third to sixth or fourth to seventh, in the case of the division where three teams are promoted. It means nineteen sides will be promoted to Step 3 in 2018 with only one team being relegated from each of those three Premier Divisions, which will then become four for the 2018/19 campaign.
In other news, the Southern League Cup has new sponsors and will be known as the BigFreeBet League Cup.

Lane adds another quality player
The Woods' new manager Simon Lane has added a another quality player to his squad in the shape of Harry Newman, formerly with Ryman League Premier Division neighbours Harrow Borough.
Newman, 26, was an integral member of the squad at Earlsmead before leaving at the end of last season. The new Northwood gaffer acted swiftly to secure the wide player's signature.
"Harry's capture is a real coup for the club particularly as he was inundated with offers. I am delighted he has chosen us for football reasons and that is a measure of the man, I believe", said Lane. "He is a player I have monitored for some time and I'm sure he will fit into our structure and philosophy perfectly.
"What I am starting to realise is that word is getting around locally, North and West London, that if you want to progress your abilities and therefore careers, then Northwood might be a good option this time around."

Woods' prodigal son returns!
Northwood FC manager Simon Lane has started his rebuilding job at Northwood Park by bringing back club legend Brad Hewitt. Hewitt has previously chalked up 190 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals, and the talented central defender worked with the new gaffer during a highly successful period at Wingate and Finchley. He played at Boreham Wood before his first spell at Chestnut Avenue, and has also appeared for Dunstable Town, Biggleswade Town, Slough Town, Burnham, Beaconsfield and Hemel Hempstead.
Manager Lane enthused: "We have a big job of rebuilding here and to get someone like Brad back to the club says a lot, I think, about where we'd like to go over time. He was superb for me previously and his experience will be paramount in helping this extremely young group to progress.
“Hopefully there will be one or two others to announce shortly but generally I'll go about our business quietly and finalise the details of our pre-season planning in the meantime.”

London Tigers to groundshare at Northwood Park
The Woods have made a decision to run without a reserve side for the next year and have entered into a one-year ground share agreement with Spartan South Midlands League side London Tigers, who found themselves homeless after travellers left their Avenue Park home (formerly Viking Sports FC's ground) on the A40 in a terrible state.
Northwood Chairman Ian Barry said: "We have been looking at alternatives to the Suburban League for our reserves for a few years now, as travelling was becoming increasingly less local and we are very interested in joining a more local competition. To that end we have been watching with interest the development of talks regarding a new Under 21 or Under 23 midweek league that has been proposed by Middlesex clubs and is being pushed by neighbours from Hendon and Wealdstone. However, that league won't be up and running for another year which left us with a bit of a dilemma.
“Whilst we are committed to developing our own youth players in the best way, our select group of youngsters, despite having experienced the tough level of the Ryman Youth League already, are still a couple of years away from senior football as far as age is concerned. So it seems reasonable to take just one year off from running the reserves and then re-introducing it at a development level once the new league is up and running.
“We were then approached by London Tigers, who find themselves without a ground this season, so we decided that we could accommodate them in a way that benefits both clubs. Therefore, we welcome everyone connected with London Tigers Football Club and hope we can enjoy a warm, amicable season together here at Northwood Park."
Woods Manager Simon Lane is happy to run without the back-up of a reserve side for a year, and is expected to utilise the dual-registration rules to give some players important senior football experience where necessary.

Woods need help with ground maintenance
Woods’ Chairman Ian Barry has asked for as many club members as possible to assist with essential ground maintenance during the closed season. Following many acts of idiotic vandalism, coupled with the regular summer requirements, much needs to be done before the season starts.
These tasks include:
- Woodwork
- Weeding
- Painting
- Repairing of seats / fencing / stands
- Daily pitch watering
Please contact Ian on 07956 121300 or email if you are able to spare a few hours.
