Gifton Noel-Williams appointed U21 & U18 Head Coach
Former Watford striker Gifton Noel-Williams has been appointed as Head Coach of the Northwood Reserves (Under 21s) and Ryman Youth League Under 18 sides for the upcoming season. Noel-Williams, who also lists Stoke City and Burnley amongst his former clubs, commented: "I am really happy and excited to be working with Northwood FC; they are a club that when growing up you would know was there to develop players in the best way they could. I feel that it is a club that is going places and the chairman Ian Barry has a clear vision where he wants Northwood to be, and is doing all he can to ensure that the club is getting to that place in the right way and in the best way possible.
"I am at a point in my career where I am in no hurry to be a manager myself and am all about development of both myself and the youngsters that I am coaching. I have some very talented youngsters who play for my college team at Westfield Academy, and this will be a good opportunity for me in this development role at Northwood to bring them in. They will be able to show what they can do and hopefully progress through to be future Northwood first team players. From what I have seen, Northwood is a great environment in which to work, and I am very much looking forward to this opportunity."
Woods Chairman Ian Barry said: "I was delighted to meet with Gifton after he applied for the Under 18 role, and it quickly became evident that with the reserve team and Under 18s being so closely linked, that Gifton was the right man to take us forward with both of these sides, with his clear vision of the development of younger players at the club. With our new Under 16 side starting in the new season, this demonstrates a clear link from that age right through to our first team now; this is something that I've been keen to implement for some time.
“Of course, with Gifton currently undertaking his UEFA Pro Licence at Burton, he brings with him a wealth of experience both in the professional game and now his new roles at the club. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress made under his guidance.
“Naturally, it wasn't an easy conversation with the outgoing Reserves Manager, Dave Fox, who has done a great job in that role for some time, but I'm extremely keen to keep him here at the club and he will be offered another role here shortly. We place on record our thanks to Dave and his team for their efforts, and indeed of their understanding of our vision going forward.”
