Northwood started their Ryman Youth League campaign with a trip to the Kingfield Stadium to face Conference outfit Woking FC. The stadium is probably one of the best that you get to play in at this level; the pitch itself was superb and what an imposing structure the Bellway Homes Stand is!

The match was always going to prove a tough one, and in the first ten minutes Woking hit the bar twice. Having weathered the storm Woods then gave away a soft goal when the defensive wall offered no protection to Daniel Daggett, who was making his debut for us in goal.

Woking continued to push, and it was little surprise when they scored a second after twenty minutes. The boys could have folded, but to their credit they battled back, and after good work from Calvin Moses, Ronnie Blagden took the chance to coolly slot home after 35 minutes.

Northwood were enjoying a great spell now and could easily have gone in at 2-2, although to be fair it would have been against the run of play, as Woking did create many chances.

So it was essential that started the second half strongly, but unfortunately this didn’t happen and virtually straight from the kick-off Woking scored. The Woods were now really up against it and Woking continued to press hard, with two further goals following.

Despite going down by  5-1 it has to be said that there were lots of positives to take from the game. At the end of the day what cost Woods the game were individual mistakes.
Going forward, I’m sure that the kind of mistakes that happened this evening will be eradicated and the Woods will have a successful season. Here’s looking forward to an away match at Camberley Town on Thursday next week.
