After two very tight 1-0 victories over Harrow Borough during the previous week, the Woods returned to goalscoring form with a first-half demolition of Barnet. With games coming thick and fast at the moment, Northwood had to overcome the absence of Sean Hollowed, Reece Fallon and Jonas Charles while also resting Jack Hutchinson, but their makeshift side proved too strong for the Bees in the opening 45 minutes.

It was the home side who went close early on though as a good strike came back off the crossbar but having survived that, the Woods took a 14th minute lead when Romaine Walker rose unmarked to head home a pinpoint Jake Rosier cross. The second goal came on the half-hour as a long ball released Walker who dribbled his way past two defenders before being forced wide and almost taken down by the ‘keeper. He kept the ball well though and then picked out Damilola Thomas with a neat chip and he headed in from a few feet.

Seven minutes later Walker notched his second with a mazy run across the box which saw him leave two players tackling thin air and then the goalkeeper sprawling before firing home. There was still three minutes to go to half-time when Rosier produced another excellent ball which put John Uche in on the right and he raced into the box before pulling the ball back across for Dwayne Cole-Parkes to stroke in the fourth goal.

Barnet must have had a stern talking to during the break, as they looked more up for the challenge after the break and they pulled a goal back just three minutes and the Woods changed formation in an attempt to stop any further goals. Cole-Parkes was very solid at the back alongside Liam McGrath and they restricted the Bees to just a couple of long-range efforts that Chezney Cassell dealt with competently.

Northwood made very little ground in attack with Walker a lone figure for much of the time but they began to threaten again in the final ten minutes. Substitute Zain Khan went close and then a run from fellow sub Lamin Cole saw him play the ball inside to Khan whose threaded ball through saw Walker hold off his marker before planting a shot inside the post to complete his hat-trick; his fourth of the season.

It was Northwood’s eighth successive victory, but they face another two games in a few days next week too, starting with the League Cup quarter-final at Walton & Hersham on Monday night, and they will have to do without star striker Walker, who starts a one-week suspension.
