Right from the first minute Northwood started this cup tie very well, pressing very high against what was a young Harefield team.
The pressure paid off quickly and within five minutes youngster Eric Nyarko scored his first goal for the reserves. The goal was particularly good as it involved five of the Northwood players, starting on the left hand side, moving across the pitch, before Aron Ruszel passed to Nyarko inside the 18 yard box, and he slotted the ball wide of the goalkeeper.
The game should really have been over by half-time, with Regan Tobun having two excellent chances and David Palmer going close from a corner.
Three Under 18s players came on in the second half and how well they did; Jamie Mckay replacing the injured Yousef Al Ashban at right back.
Harefield changed their shape and pushed higher up the pitch which resulted in them scoring a goal after good work from their left winger who cut inside and scored a good goal.
But the best was yet to come, as with only five minutes remaining Ronnie Blagden and Michael Elderfield combined well down the right-hand side and crossed to Harry Smart. He chested the ball down on the edge of the 18-yard box and then fired a shot across the keeper to score a goal worthy of winning any game.
The second leg of this cup game is scheduled to be played at Harefield on December 14th, and there is still plenty of work for the Woods to do if they are to move into the next round.
