The Woods moved up to third in the Suburban League table with this well-deserved victory over Barton Rovers.
Northwood knew that this game would be very difficult after Barton had defeated previously unbeaten leaders Royston Town 3-0 last week and they came into the game being the division's top goalscorers.
From the start both teams played some good football, with both goalkeepers in fine form. There were a couple of chances for each side but the 0-0 score at half-time was a fair reflection on the opening 45 minutes.
But after the break Northwood took the game to Barton Rovers and the five midfield players, all being under 19, kept possession for long periods of time with some delightful football. It was just a matter of time before Northwood scored and the opening goal came on 55 minutes after a fantastic through-ball from Charlie Parker allowed Regan Tobun to round the keeper and slot home.
Northwood doubled the lead after 75 minutes as skipper Tom Pegrum beat the offside trap and neatly found Harry Smart, who finished well for a crucial second goal.
Barton Rovers scored a couple of minutes into stoppage-time to make the final score 2-1 but it was only a consolation.
Overally, a great team performance on which to build over the coming weeks. Next Saturday, the reserves travel to Berkhamsted who are still looking for their first win of the season.
