Struggling Northwood's season hit a new low as they followed up Saturday's 6-1 reverse with a trouncing at the hands of last season's F.A. Vase winners. The Curfews were also coming off the back of a 6-1 defeat at the weekend as they exited the F.A. Cup at Maldon & Tiptree, so both sides had something to prove on a breezy evening at Alwyns Lane.
There were a number of changes to the Woods line-up with injuries to Matt Cooper and Andrew Tirivanhu forcing manager Scott Dash to go for three at the back with Sacha M'Baye returning alongside new signing Cory Watson. Tremayne Charles and Luke Holness were drafted in as emergency wing-backs while new man David Carty partnered Alex Witham in an frontline missing the injured Kweku Lucan.
Northwood were quickly into their stride as Holness almost created a goalscoring opportunity for Witham at the near post before a jinking Charles run into box ended with him lifting his shot over the bar. And Woods deservedly opened the scoring with nine minutes on the clock as M'Baye headed home Charlie Hayford's near post corner.
Northwood looked to press home their advantage and the lively Charles combined with Hayford before playing in Carty who was crowded out by the home defence. But Woods' recent defensive frailties were on show once again as the visitors failed to clear their lines and Jake Baxter fired in a low shot from the edge of the box to draw Chertsey level on 14 minutes.
However, that was just the start of the horror show as Woods proceeded to concede another four goals in 16 minutes. Sam Murphy put the Curfews ahead on 21 minutes as he capitalised on some poor defending while three minutes later Jake Baxter extended the lead after a smart back-heel from Quincy Rowe opened up the Woods' defence.
Shell-shocked Northwood had no answers in the face of the Chertsey onslaught and Jonathan Hippolyte helped himself to a couple of goals on 31 and 37 minutes as Woods continued to shoot themselves in the foot.
With the contest effectively over, Northwood had a great chance to register a second strike before the break, Carty heading over with the goal at his mercy.
Woods only had pride to play for in the second half but the one-way traffic continued as Chertsey created a succession of chances, Lubo Guentchev finishing off a slick move for a sixth goal on 57 minutes.
Northwood switched to a 4-4-2 with Watson making way for Karl Stevenson and Chris Gosling dropping into left-back. And Woods began to make an impression with Kingsley Eshun and Charles going close.
However, Lewis Driver scored with a neat lob on 76 minutes after Woods squandered possession in midfield.
Charles made way for Harry Lodovica as Woods looked for some consolation and they found some solace as Witham converted an 81st minute penalty after a push on M'Baye.
But Northwood's humiliation was complete as they conceded an eighth goal in added time as Driver headed home to make it Woods' highest goals-against tally since 1975, whilst also marking the end of manager Scott Dash's tenure.
