NORTHWOOD ROBBED
HAYES RESERVES 1  NORTHWOOD 1

Northwood were robbed of victory against a powerful Hayes Reserves side last week by an injury time goal from Mick McNutt.

Hayes started at a tremendous pace, and never allowed  the Woods to hold the ball.
It was some time before the Hayes goal was threatened. But when Northwood at last got into the game, they began to take the upper hand.

New signing Willie Wordsworth, already a favourite with Northwood supporters, formed a twin spearhead with Senior, and they often had the home defence stretched to breaking point.

The Middlesex Leaguers were well in control in midfield after the interval, and after several threatening moves, Wordsworth latched onto a Pearce pass, and opened the scoring wide low drive past the Hayes keeper.

The pace again quickened as Hayes went all out for the equaliser, and Northwood for their second.

But just as it seemed Northwood would pull off a shock win, McNutt stepped up to take a free kick, and blasted the ball home from 35 yards.
