MATCH REPORTS 1969-70

Wednesday 22nd April 1970
"RESERVES" LOSE
NORTHWOOD 1  GIOVANOTA 3

Northwood were forced  to play without six first-team regulars against Giovanota for their sixth game in eight days and, although the reserves fitted in well, they went down 3-1.

This defeat virtually put paid to Northwood's championship hopes, and with three league and two cup games to play within ten days they may yet find themselves robbed of the runners-up position, too.

Northwood pressed hard, and only good goalkeeping kept them out. But then Giovanota broke away and scored through their inside left.

The half-backs set up some good chances for Byrne, but the Northwood striker was sadly out of touch in what was his 84th game of the season.

Things went from bad to worse, as Harding deflected a shot past his own 'keeper, and poor marking let Giovanota in for a third goal. With ten minutes left, Senior broke on the left and crossed for Pearce to slide the ball home.
