MATCH REPORTS 1968-69

Saturday 1st March 1969
NORTHWOOD STAGE A GREAT REVIVAL
KINGSBURY TOWN 4  NORTHWOOD 2

Northwood, perhaps overcome by the occasion, took a terrific early pounding in this Middlesex Intermediate Cup quarter-final, found themselves three down mid-way through the first half – and four in arrears at the break.

Then the Northwood youngsters staged a remarkable comeback, scored twice and had the experienced Kingsbury side in terrible trouble.

Unfortunately for Northwood, Kingsbury held on under sustained pressure, and somehow managed to survive until the final whistle.

Northwood were pushed back on defence from the start, and Kingsbury exploited gaps in defence to score three times.

Gould went close for Northwood but then the home side went four up just before the interval.

The second half, which had appeared a mere formality for Kingsbury, proved anything but that. First centre-forward Sanders broke away to score and then Byrne powered his way through for a Northwood second.

Byrne saw two fine headers scrape the crossbar, and Northwood outplayed the home side without scoring again.
