Less than a week after the arrival of Tommy Cooney as the Woods new manager and having had his opening match at the weekend postponed, it was a new-look Northwood starting line-up for this midweek visit of the Rams.

No less than seven players made their debut with only Mack Miskin, Bryan Mankumbani, Osa Otote and Freddie Ford keeping their place. Three more newcomers were on the bench.

And the Woods made a good start to the game. An early strike from Revin Domi, brough in on loan from MK Dons, forced a good save from Tommy Dymott in goal. After more pressure, Northwood got themselves in front when another newcomer, Alie Bangura, cut in from the left and curled in a great strike to the far post on 27 minutes.

Ryan Kelly was making his debut between the sticks for the home side and he made a good, instinctive save to deny former Woods striker Manu Oke-William four minutes later but there was a setback for Northwood on 38 minutes when impressive former Arsenal youngster Nathan Tormey limped off to be replaced by Frankie Pass.

Three minutes later, there was an opportunity to double the lead when a good ball found Otote but he failed to hit the target but it seemed that the Woods would hold the lead through to the break until a ball was whipped in from the right and hit another debutant Richie Mbele on the hand as he looked to block. A penalty was the decision and skipper James Dobson gratefully accepted the opportunity to level things up at the break.

Hopes remained high that Northwood could force their way back in front but when Mbele put a neat ball through to Bangura, this time he slid his effort wide of the post.

Things turned around on 61 minutes when a free-kick from out wide on the right was delivered accurately and a glancing header from Dobson saw Kelly only able to push the ball into the net.

The Rams were finally beginning to use their clear height advantage to their benefit and a third goal wrapped up the points on 76 minutes when a free header from a corner allowed Oke-William to score.

There was a late rally from a Woods side that showed great spirit. Domi’s fierce striker was well saved by Dymott, Otote hit a shot that flew wide and then Mack Miskin’s free-kick was also saved comfortably.
