Ian had a successful playing career at Southampton, Farnborough Town, Salisbury City, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Boreham Wood and Dulwich Hamlet. A broken leg at 27 saw Ian move into coaching becoming assistant manager at Walton & Hersham before going on to manage Hartley Wintney.

He then won the Combined Counties Premier Division title with Godalming Town in a playing/coach role. Ian had a brief spell at Northwood in November 2005, then moved to Hellenic side Bisley two seasons ago, and he was appointed as manager in July 2007.
