Darren Howell was one of the first players introduced by former manager Tony Choules and his assistant Bob Webster. He signed from Egham Town, made his debut on the left wing in a Tuesday night home game against Wivenhoe Town, which Northwood lost 0-3 and was never to appear again. Injury was the reason, but when he did start playing again it was back at Egham the following season.
