Winger with plenty of pace, Malcolm joined the Woods in the summer of 1988, aged 24, having previously played for Thamesmead Town, Yeading and Harrow Borough. He had won Spartan League and Cup medals with the Ding, and was an important signing for Alan Merison as he looked to build a challenging side.

Though never a prolific goalscorer, Benners supplied plenty of ammunition for the forwards throughout the next two seasons before moving on to play for Harefield United, amongst others. He then returned to the club for a further spell in 1993, making a further 20 appearances.
