Northwood had a rare Wednesday fixture, in which they slipped to a 1-0 Pitching-In Southern League Division One Central defeat away to Aylesbury United.

But the big question at The Meadow on the night was: did the Ducks' winner actually cross the line? The linesman indicated he thought the ball did go into the goal after hitting the crossbar - but video evidence seemed to suggest otherwise....

Gary Meakin's side did however miss a string of chances, and they were also denied a stoppage time penalty after Sam Folarin was brought down. Clearly, it just wasn't the Woods' night!

It's been four weeks since Northwood last played a Pitching-In Southern League Division One Central fixture, and this afternoon it showed as they went down 0-4 way to promotion-chasing Hadley - although the game was closer than that score suggests.

Gary Meakin's side held their own in the first half, and the home side led at the break by a solitary goal on the half-hour. But three more strikes in the final third of the game put a misleading look on the result. Next up, a trip to Aylesbury United on Wednesday evening.

We were very sad to learn of the passing on Tuesday afternoon of George “Joe” Saunders, aged 92, and we send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Joe joined Northwood FC in the late 1940’s, making many appearances in the club's Harrow & Wembley League days up until 1970. After his playing days ended, Joe for a spell ran the club almost single-handedly; acting as club secretary, treasurer and manager, he kept the club afloat with help from his family.

Joe's son Ian told us: “I like to imagine him and his old football mates setting the world to rights, glasses in hand, at that great gentlemen's bar in the sky”.

One wonders whether the Woods will ever get to play their home Pitching-In Southern League fixture against Barton Rovers, as yet again - for the fourth time! - the game has been postponed with the The Skyline Roofing Stadium pitch remaining waterlogged.

The next attempt to stage this fixture will be made on Tuesday 25th March, kick-off 7.45 p.m.

There's yet another postponement to report this morning, amazingly the ninth of the season! The pitch at The Skyline Roofing Stadium is waterlogged in parts, so following an inspection this afternoon's Pitching-In Southern League Central Division fixture against Ware has been called off.

The game will now be played on Tuesday 18th March.

Fingers crossed that our next fixture, at home to Barton Rovers on Tuesday evening, will go ahead as planned!

The club was very sad to learn of the passing last Wednesday of long-term Woods supporter John Robertson, who for many years held season tickets both at Northwood and QPR, and he regularly helped the club in other ways. We send our sincere condolences to John's family and friends.

John's funeral will take place at Breakspear Crematorium on Thursday 27th February at 2pm, with a celebration of his life afterwards in the Northwood FC clubhouse.

There is no fixture for the Woods this afternoon, Northwood being the odd team out in the 21-club Southern League division.

However, Hayes & Hillingdon are in action at The Skyline Roofing Stadium, when they take on Jolof Sports in a Middlesex League fixture which kicks-off at 3.00 p.m. – and admission is free!

It’s an important game for our tenants, who have applied for promotion to the Combined Counties League and are currently nine points behind leaders SL Benfica, but with three games in hand.

The C & G Scaffolding clubhouse will be open for food and refreshments before, during and after the match; please note: cash only!!

Following an inspection, this evening's Pitching-In Southern League Central Division fixture at The Skyline Roofing Stadium against Welwyn Garden City has been postponed as the pitch remains waterlogged.

The game is now scheduled to be played on Tuesday 4th March.

The Woods are without a fixture this Saturday, so the next scheduled game is on Saturday 8th February versus Ware at The Skyline Roofing Stadium.

There was yet another postponement for the Woods this afternoon, as their Pitching-In Southern League Central Division fixture against Hertford Town at The Skyline Roofing Stadium was called off by the referee as the heavy overnight rain had left parts of the pitch waterlogged. There's something to be said for plastic pitches!

The game is now planned to be played on Tuesday 11th March.

Queens Park Rangers’ Under 18s defender Alpha Keita-Turay has joined Northwood on a work-experience loan.

The 17-year-old centre-half, who first joined Rangers as an Under 9 and has also appeared in QPR’s Development Squad this season, will remain with the Woods until February 20th.

Woods' Under 18s' top of the table Allied Counties League clash on Wednesday evening against Tring Athletic has been postponed until Wednesday 5th March due to issues with the dressing rooms.

Next Wednesday, 29th January, Northwood U18s play Hillingdon Borough in the Middlesex Senior Youth Cup at The Skyline Roofing Stadium.

The Woods were defeated 1-3 by a good Berkhamsted outfit in a Pitching-In Southern League Central Division game at The Skyline Roofing Stadium this afternoon.

High-flying Berkhamsted took a second minute lead and added another in the 12th minute, making it three before the break. Gary Meakin's side battled back spiritedly in the second half, gaining some reward when Troy Perez-Duah made the most of a slip by the visiting keeper with a few minutes remaining.

Northwood gained a good point this evening from a 1-1 draw away to third-placed Flackwell Heath in a Pitching-In Southern League Division One Central fixture.

The home side took an early lead, but Jack Smith shot the equaliser on 11 minutes following a corner. Manager Gary Meakin commented: "A positive performance from the team, a point away from home against a good side in Flackwell Heath; another game ticked off with a point to add to the total." The result saw the Woods climb above Stotfold, whose game was abandoned, in the league table.

The weather was the winner once again today, as Northwood's visit to Leverstock Green for a Pitching-In Southern League Division One Central fixture was postponed as expected due to a frozen playing surface; indeed, the only two games to go ahead in the division were played on plastic pitches.

The fixture will now be played on Tuesday 25th February, kick-off 7.45 p.m.
