Northwood Reserves made their opening Suburban League fixture a winning one and by some considerable margin as they secured a 5-0 success away at Hanworth Villa.
They took time to settle, but took the lead after 15 minutes when a long kick from goalkeeper Dan Daggett was flicked on by a combination of Ryan Lee and Josh Lambe, and it allowed Michael Elderfield to round the keeper and score.
The Woods missed several other chances in the first half, and Luke Fox, Lambe and Giles Townsend all perhaps should have done better when well positioned.
Ten minutes into the second half, Dave Palmer had to be replaced by Karim Aissaoui after getting the ball directly in his face, and almost immediately, Alex Delasalle split the home defence with an excellent ball that allowed Ryan Lee to go through and score a second.
Lee then turned provider for Elderfield to net his second before he was replaced by Scott Gilzean, who then played a big part in the final twenty minutes. His corner was met by a firm header from Delasalle, who made it 4-0 and then Gilzean wrapped up the victory with a fine solo goal, skipping past several challenges before racing into the box and hitting a cool finish with a shot just inside the post.
