Woods had a changed side from the previous game against Carshalton, for this County Cup tie, but Ii felt that the team we put out had sufficient quality to go and win the game. Woods started brightly but the possession they had was not turned into goals, which seems to be our Achilles heel at the moment.
The trio in midfield of Sharples, Williamson and Wallace started to get the ball down and play, with the latter having a wonderful effort hit the bar. But, as seems to be the case lately, Enfield scored almost immediately to take the lead. Woods picked up their perfomance, and when presented with a great through ball Matt Andrews dispatched the it past the Enfield keeper for his second goal in as many games to level the scores, and make it 1-1 at half time.
The second half started very evenly, and there was not much between the two teams. Mirzai was introduced for Desagurante, and had a great chance to put Woods 2-1 up, at the defender blocked his effort. And again within five minuets Woods were 2-1 down after giving away a needless free kick.
Northwood never really recovered from that blow, and Enfield went on to score a third.
In truth, I have no complaints about the result as Enfield's young side deserved the win in the end. What dissapointed me the most was how we let ourselves down by giving a below par performance in the second half. On a positive note, young Gutteridge again had a fine game, and we have a number of young talent players waiting to come through.
