For the second time in four days, Northwood’s opponents managed to secure a sought-after play-off position as this replayed league game saw Bedworth United deservedly take all three points.

The visitors made a great start to what could have been a nervous game for them as the impressive wing-back Jamie Ashmore got ahead of Andy Lomas on the right and rifled a shot into the top corner to give Berkley Laurencin in goal no chance.

The Woods worked hard to get back into the game and Niko Muir found himself in a good position but his shot across the face of goal flashed wide of the far post. Then Joakim Ehui’s ball to Ismael Ehui saw the latter poke a shot over the top.

Ismael Ehui was put through on goal again on 38 minutes but chose to shot early and the ball flew wide of the post.

The Greenbacks finished the half on top though with Daniel Creaney shooting wide after a good ball from Ashmore and then a couple of late free-kicks were fired in but the Woods defence held out strongly.

The visitors made a couple of changes early in the second-half with Luke Rowe replacing Nathan Haines and then striker Alex Naughton was brought on for David Blenkinsopp.

After 53 minute Dave Lawrence picked out Steve Brown with a free-kick but his header lacked direction and goalkeeper Denham Hinds collected successfully.

But it was almost game over on the hour as a long throw dropped in the box and when the Woods failed to clear Naughton chipped the ball over the keeper to double the lead.

Nana Asamoah and Michael Murray came on to boost the Woods and after 75 minutes they were unlucky not to pull a goal back as Lawrence’s great 25-yard strike crashed back off the top of a post.

Just a minute later it was almost 3-0 as Ben Steane scooped a shot over the bar from close-range after a good cross from the right.

Neither side looked like to change the scoreline in the closing stages and the Greenbacks could celebrate their place in the play-offs as the final whistle signalled the end of the replayed game; completed without a yellow card to be seen.
