Youth Reports 2016-17

23 October 2016

Northwood U8s Reds 12 Alexandra Palace 7

A cracking victory for the u8s today. Northwood got off to a shaky start and after missing a few early chances conceded two quick goals.  The team didn't panic though and after they found their shape and started passing the ball around drew back level.
Alexandra Palace didn't take a backward step though and replied with another couple of goals one of which was a superb long range shot. A couple of substitutions gave Northwood more defensive stability with Zak and Harry putting in some crunching tackles to provide a platform for Shaquan to net his first hat trick of the season which included a top corner thunderbolt from 20+ yards out and Blake to score an excellently placed low strike into the corner of the net.
Half time saw Northwood nursing a slender 5-4 lead, with the game in the balance. The second half however was one of the best team performances the kids have put in. Tireless running from Verity, solid Defence from Zak and Harry and a couple of saves from Mason combined with a set of stunning strikes to clinch victory.
A second hat trick from the excellent Shaquan was complemented by a brace from Alex, one of which included three terrific back to back tackles, a speedy solo run and finish from Blake and a superbly struck long range goal from Alfie. As pleasing as the quality of the goals was, the way Northwood moved the ball around to create chances bodes well for the rest of the season...
Scorers: Shaquan 6, Alfie 2, Blake 2, Alex 2

Northwood U9 Blue 1 Macabi London Lions Yellow 1

The Blues played a competitive match against the Macabi with chances at both ends. We managed to open the scoring thanks to a good shot from Sam. The away team equalised late on in the first half. In the second half the blues dominated the match but failed to score despite all outfield players joining the attack. Sahel was unlucky with a shot against the bar in the final minute. Man of the Match was Dylan who was solid in defence, made some great interceptions and good build up play from the back.

Alexandra Park 7  Northwood Reds U10 0

Northwood Reds U10's travelled to Alexandra Park North on the back of a great result last weekend, it was a good start by the reds with Billy testing there goalkeeper early on but Northwood fell behind soon after it seemed to knock there confidence as APN then added a few more before half time, Northwood came out trying to play football with Kai pushing further forward, but it was a tough ask chasing the game and ended up losing 7-0 although Harish made some very important challenges at the back earning himself this week’s MOTM award.

Turnstile Green 2 Northwood White U10s 3

After last week blip in going down 2-1 to a last minute winner, the boys showed courage and grit today away to Turnstile greens coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 A special mention to Christian who scored his first goal with a left foot screamer to get the fight back started and also made a flying acrobatic goal line clearance to keep the score 3-2.
Further goals from Ryan and Ibrahim completed the scoring. Man of the match went to Christian this week due his vital contribution and positive play. Overall all the boys played well, roll on next week.
