Northwood lose at Ashford after leading

Despie Zaied Sabti giving the Woods the lead at Ashford Town this afternoon, they slipped to a narrow 1-2 Bostik League defeat - their first on the road in 2019.

Sabti opened the scoring on 22 minutes, hitting home a good effort after being set up by Dan Newton and Trey Charles. But Ashford levelled in the 36th minute with a header following a corner.

And the winning goal for the home side arrived five minutes into the second period after the Woods had failed to clear the ball. The match report and photos are here.

Woods progress to County Charity Cup semis

Three goals in the closing stages ensured that Northwood progressed to the semi-finals of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup at AFC Hayes this evening.

The Woods has several chances in the first half but the Combined Counties League outfit took a 66th minute lead with a well-struck free-kick.

But eight minutes later a long Sam Jenkins cross found Alex Witham, who headed home inside the post. Witham saw the keeper save another header a few minutes later, but Kyran Worrell was on hand to shoot home the rebound. Then when Worrell was tripped, Zaied Sabti shot home the penalty to complete the Woods' 3-1 win. The match report is here.

In the semi-final, Northwood will play away to the winners of the Ashford Town v Hanworth Villa tie, on a date to be arranged.

The Woods hit four past FC Romania

Northwood have enjoyed a good 2019 in the road, but it's been a different story at The AcreTweed Stadium. But this afternoon the Woods raced to a convincing 4-1 Bostik League South Central victory against FC Romania, their first at home since November.

The Woods went ahead after just six minutes, Trey Charles crashing home a long-distance effort. And it was two as many minutes later, Leigh Stevens finishing with great composure. Skipper Carl Pearce netted number three, heading powerfully home a free-kick from Trey Charles in the 41st minute.

It was another Charles dead-ball effort which lead to Northwood's fourth in the 68th minute, his corner finding Alex Witham who evaded the defence to head in for a goal on his home debut, which was also marked by being named Active IT Systems Man of the Match. The visitors netted a consolation goal with ten minutes left on the clock.

A good three points for the Woods, who play a Middlesex Senior Charity Cup quarter-final at AFC Hayes on Tuesday evening. The match report and photos are here.

Woods claim 4-1 win at South Park

Northwood maintained their excellent away form with a 4-1 victory on their first-ever visit to South Park in a re-arranged Bostik League South Central fixture this evening.

Chris Gosling gave Woods a 21st minute lead before Alex Witham claimed his first Northwood goal on 35 minutes. And the visitors were three up when Imran Uche netted a fine goal shortly before the interval.

Jabir Laraba netted Northwood's fourth in the 73rd minute, another with his first for the club, and although South Park claimed a consolation goal with three minutes remaining, it didn't put a damper on a fine win for Scott Dash's side. The match report is here.

Northwood take a point at Tooting

It was a point apiece for the Woods as they drew 1-1 away to Tooting & Mitcham United Bostik League South Central fixture this afternoon.

Scott Dash gave a debut to new signing Alex Witham, who did well in a Woods side that dominated for much of the match, and they may consider it two points dropped rather than one gained, but there were plenty of positives in the performance.

Tooting & Mitcham took the lead very much against the run of play shortly before half-time but Northwood were level on 51 minutes when a free-kick was drilled in high by Leigh Stevens and Sam Jenkins headed home. Despite the Woods continuing to create chances, they couldn't find that winning goal. The match report and photos are here.

Scott Dash adds to the Woods' squad

Manager Scott Dash has strengthened the Woods' squad prior to tomorrow's trip to play Tooting & Mitcham United.

A former Arsenal Youth and Derby County reserve player, 26-year-old attacker Alex Witham (far left) joins up from Leverstock Green. Alex is an attacking player who can play in midfield or in a striking role and played for Biggleswade Town, Wealdstone and Slough Town after being released by Derby. He then spent several solid seasons at Wembley before moving to Leverstock Green this season.

Also signed up today is midfielder Kerran Lataille, who comes in from Aylesbury United. He is also 26 and after starting out at QPR he has also played for Maidenhead United, Hanwell Town, North Greenford United, Sun Sports and Aylesbury FC. Kerran is the much younger brother of Norman Lataille who played for the Woods back in the 1987/88 season.

Narrow home defeat for the Woods

In a rare midweek home Bostik League fixture, Northwood were narrowly defeated 1-2 by South Central champions-elect Hayes & Yeading United at The Acretweed Stadium this evening.

Hayes & Yeading have been racking up the goals this season, and top scorer Lee Barney added one more to their total with just twelve minutes on the clock. But Woods defended resolutely after that until Scott Donnelly smashed a 20 yard volley past Luke Sheldrick to make it 0-2 just before the break.

The Woods were given the lifeline they had been striving for on 71 minutes when Zaied Sabti crashed home a brilliant strike from 30 yards, but there was to be no further scoring as the visitors maintained their twelve points lead at the top of the table. The match report and photos are here.
