Woods slump to defeat in Middlesex Cup final

Northwood slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat by Broadfields United in the final of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup at Uxbridge FC this evening.

The Woods struggled to get going in the first half, with the Combined Counties League outfit taking a 15th minute lead with a header following in a corner. Northwood improved after the break, going close several times, but the breakthrough did not come, so Broadfields lifted the impressive trophy; our congratulations go to the winners!

The match report and photos are here.

Peter Lawrence is the new Northwood Youth chairman

The Club are delighted to announce some exciting news this afternoon. Peter Lawrence, who has been in and around Northwood Football Club since 1990, has been officially appointed as the new Northwood Youth Chairman. The club is very close to Peter's heart, and he is absolutely delighted with this appointment. He is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and is excited to continue his journey with the club in this new role.

Woods Chairman Ian Barry said: “I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Andy Tooley for his many years of service to the youth teams and am delighted that he will stay on here in a coaching capacity. Andy has been a crucial part of the Northwood FC family, and we cannot thank him enough for his contributions. A tremendous amount of work goes on behind the scenes, often unrecognised and certainly rarely thanked for.

“Please join us in congratulating Peter on his new role and thanking Andy for all that he has done for the youth section of the club. I am fully aware that the last few weeks and even months have been difficult and a lot has been said, by many. However, I hope that everyone will come together now and support Peter and help us in moving the club on and achieving bigger and better things.

“Northwood FC has always had the potential to be a leading club in the area and with the right support from everyone, there is no reason why we can’t be the envy of all clubs around us and indeed to reach our aim, to be the club of choice in Middlesex. Whilst there will be some changes in the short term, I am confident that these will all be for the better as we strive to make the necessary progress.”

Battling Northwood are just edged out in play-off semi-final

The Woods were narrowly edged out in their first-ever play-off game this evening, going down 1-2 away to Walton & Hersham in the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central semi-final.

Josh Helmore shocked the large home crowd when he fired home a cracking drive into the corner of the net with just five minutes on the clock, having been set up by Osaretin Otote, and there was plenty of action at both ends before Walton levelled just before the half-hour mark.

Walton had ended the regular season 24 points ahead of Northwood, but the game was generally very even and looked to be heading for extra time when a contentious penalty was awarded against Romario Jonas on 82 minutes, and Andrew McCorkell, who enjoyed a great game, was unable to keep out the spot-kick. The match report and photos are here.

Ultimately, disappointment on the night for Steve and Ben's squad, but they still have the chance of silverware in next week's Middlesex Senior Charity Cup final!

Woods' final regular fixture sees Marlow defeated 3-1

The Woods ended their regular Pitchng In Isthmian League South Central season in fine style this afternoon, when they ran out 3-1 winners against Marlow at The Skyline Roofing Stadium.

Both sides had already been confirmed as play-offs contestants, and Northwood got off to a flying start when Riccardo Alexander-Greenaway headed them ahead after just five minutes play. Shane Cojocorel capitalised on a defensive error to lob the ball home just past the half-hour to make it 2-0, before the visitors pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.

The second half was evenly fought, but Alexander-Greenaway made the points safe when he fired home on 87 minutes. The match report and photos are here.

Next up for Steve and Ben's men is the play-off semi-final away to Walton & Hersham on Wednesday evening, kick-off 7.45 p.m.!

Meanwhile, our tenants Spartans have five more scheduled Combined Counties League fixtures at our stadium – they play Molesey on Monday 24th April, Brook House (Tuesday 25th), Sandhurst (Thursday 27th) and Langley (Monday 1st May).

The final will be at Uxbridge on Wednesday 3rd May against the winners of the Hanwell Town v Broadfields or North Greenford semi-final.

Another three points slip away at South Park Reigate

The Woods' hopes of claiming a place in the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central promotion play-offs took another hit this afternoon, when they were beaten 1-3 away to South Park Reigate in their penultimate league outing.

South Park took a first half lead, and after a Northwood penalty miss, Dan Williams levelled the scores just before the break. But two further goals from the Reigate side after the restart condemned the Woods to defeat, with Marlow visiting The Skyline Roofing Stadium next Saturday in our final fixture.

The match report and photos are here.

Northwood go down 1-2 away to Hanworth Villa

The Woods this evening finally got to play their Easter Pitching In Isthmian League South Central game away to Hanworth Villa, only to slip to a 1-2 defeat.

Hanworth took a two-goal interval lead, and despite a strong second half showing from Northwood, they could only manage Gareth Chendlik's goal in that period. Two more fixtures to play to clinch a play-offs place....

The match report and photos are here.

Woods' play-offs rivals are in Easter Saturday action

The Woods are not in action this Easter Saturday, whilst some of their rivals for play-off places do play today. Basingstoke moved back to the top of the table yesterday with a narrow victory against Southall, but Walton & Hersham will be looking to regain pole spot when they play away to Guernsey this afternoon.

Third place Marlow play at home to South Park Reigate, needing one more win to confirm their play-offs place, and they are the Woods’ main rival for a home semi-final (should we qualify). Leatherhead have recovered from a poor start and have moved up the table, and play fifth side Hanworth Villa at Fetcham Grove today.

Other candidates Binfield are away to Uxbridge, whilst Chertsey Town - managerless following the departure of ex Woods boss Dave Anderson - are home to Tooting & Mitcham United.

Northwood are back in action on Easter Monday, with a crucial trip to Hanworth Villa.

Woods are held to another goal-less draw by Binfield

The woodwork was struck three times this evening - twice by Northwood - but for the second time in a month they were held to a goal-less Pitching In Isthmian League South Central draw by Binfield. Nevertheless, the game was an entertaining one, and the point gained enabled the Woods remain comfortably in fourth place in the table, whilst the home side dropped one spot to sixth.

The kick-off was delayed due to a floodlight failure, but the game was bright enough once it finally got underway. Binfield went close when they hit the bar around the half-hour mark, then on the stroke of half-time Gareth Chendlik, having been set up by ex Binfield striker Josh Helmore, was the next man to crash a shot against the woodwork.

Both sides had chances after the break, but the closest to a goal came on 78 minutes, when Shane Cojocarel's excellent 20 yard free-kick beat the keeper but cannoned back off the overworked crossbar.  The match report and photos are here.
