The Woods go down to heavy defeat at Marlow

Northwood slipped to a heavy Pitching In Isthmian League South Central defeat this evening away to Marlow, going down 1-4 at The Alfred Davis ground.

The Buckinghamshire outfit took an early lead, but that was pulled back by a stunning strike from recent signing Adam Laaref within a few minutes. Marlow were back in front soon after, then two goals within a minure early in the second period sealed the Woods' fate, and they now look to bounce back against Raynes Park Vale on Saturday.

Paul Byrne celebrates the anniversary of his Northwood debut - in 1962!

Before Saturday’s game against Uxbridge, Paul Byrne was given a guard of honour as he celebrated the anniversary of his debut for Northwood – on 27 January 1962, a mere 62 years ago! That first game ended with a 5-0 defeat at Torrington in the Harrow & Wembley League, but the young Paul wasn’t put off, and he watches the Woods to this day.

Paul holds the post-war record for scoring the most goals in a first team game for Northwood – seven in a County Cup tie in 1967 – and regularly found the net during his playing career. He made a total of around 375 appearances in a Woods shirt.

He was club secretary for a number of years, and also player-manager when the Woods won the Middlesex League Cup (their first major trophy at that level) by beating Yeading 2-1 in 1975. He is now a Life Member of the club.

Three goal win for the Woods in Middlesex derby

Northwood got back to winning ways in fine style at The Skyline Roofing Stadium this afternoon, running out 3-0 winners against Uxbridge in their Pitching In Isthmian League clash.

Deago Dunbar-Bonnie gave the Woods a fifth minute lead with a 20-yard shot which deceived the keeper, and although Uxbridge came back strongly for a spell, debutant Adam Laaref made it 2-0 just before the break. And on 73 minutes, Dan Williams fired the ball across the box, and defender Lewis Pegg deflected it into his own goal - three goals, three points and a clean sheet for Ben Bukowski's side!

Woods confirm three new signings for Ben's squad

We are delighted to confirm some recent signings! Lucas Sinclair was signed on dual registration with Chesham United in January 2024, and scored on his debut against Leatherhead. He started his second spell at Chesham last August after playing at Bedfont Sports and Beaconsfield Town. Lucas also has experience of Step 2 football with Welling and Havant & Waterlooville.

18 year old Archie James joined this week from Oxhey Jets, where he scored nine goals in 27 appearances. The attacking midfielder was part of the squad for yesterday’s County Cup fixture.

And a third “new” signing is Dan Williams, who has returned to the Woods after a short spell at Uxbridge. Dan is still our top scorer this season with ten goals so far, and hopefully there are plenty more to come from him – maybe starting on Saturday when we play Uxbridge at The Skyline Roofing Stadium!

The Woods gave a hard-working performance in this evening's Middlesex Senior Cup quarter-final at Hendon, but were narrowly beaten 3-2.

Northwood go down 2-1 at home to Leatherhead

The Woods went down 1-2 at The Skyline Roofing Stadium this afternoon against Leatherhead in a Pitching In Isthmian League South Central fixture.

Northwood gave a strong performance throughout, but couldn't get on the scoresheet until the closing stages, when debut striker Lucas Sinclair netted. However, Leatherhead had scored through Trevan Robinson (20 minutes) and Alpha Diallo (54 minutes) - and though the home side had a great shout for a penalty when Kofi Anokye-Boadi was brought down in the closing stages, it turned out that the referee had forgotten to bring his glasses....he's off to Specsavers in the morning!

It was the Woods' first outing of 2024 following two postponements to start the year, and they had to battle hard for the points, with keeper Roraigh Browne making some important saves to retain a clean sheet.
