Under 10s win Mitre Cup

Northwood FC took their Under 10's to Clacton on Sea to take part in the Mitre Cup, a competition that included teams from across the South East of England and Holland. On the Saturday, Northwood played four games, winning 3 and only losing to Ajax of Holland, the pre-tournament favourites.

Sunday saw Northwood play another 3 games, winning them all to qualify for the final against Ajax. The final itself was played in near-gale force wind conditions, but the Northwood boys were told to keep the ball down whenever possible and use their passing skills. This paid off when the Reds went 1-0 up in the first half against the wind.

The second half saw Northwood continuing to play great football and restricting Ajax to not a single shot. Northwood could have even added to the score, but the Ajax 'keeper was in inspired form. The single-goal victory probably didn't reflect Northwood's superiority in the game, but it was good enough!

All of the boys played their part, with determination, concentration and a huge team spirit winning the cup. Over the two days Northwood scored 14 goals and conceded just three. The evening saw a wonderful presentation at which the Woods were presented the trophy by former Arsenal and England legend Martin Keown.

The triumphant Northwood squad were: Alex Marmor, Karan Sofat, Sam Netscher, Travis Clarke, Samuel Thieme, Khye Leung, Rishi Joshee, Aman Sandhu and Josh Simpson.
