Bushey Rangers 2  Northwood Reds Reds Under 13s 5

An excellent overall team performance saw Northwood Reds U13's win a local derby against Bushey with relative ease in the end. The game was a bit of doubt all the way up to kick off because of the frozen ground, but luckily with the KO not scheduled until 11am the sun softened the pitch enough for both teams to agree it was safe enough to play the game. Prior to kick off the players from both teams stood silent remembering the players from Brazilian team Chapecoense who had lost players & staff in the plane crash earlier this week.

This week due to Ale having to pull out hours before kick due to illness and Ben & Arun both unavailable it did make it easy for myself and John to pick the team.

Once the game started both teams were matching each other for chances with a real battle in the middle of the pitch developing with Felipe, Dan Jago and Zaki all playing well. Lewis Reid and Oliver were our wide players today and Oliver had a great game and received this week’s player of the match. The back four of George, Lewis Ryan, Daniel Terry, & Dec all played well as well, and with Rayyan behind them we had a good look to the side with Ashley as ever working hard as our lone striker.

With 10 minutes gone Bushey opened up us and went into a 1-0 lead, with a goal that we should have defended better as a team. But as usual the boys did not let this set back dishearten them and were soon making a lot more chances. In the fifteenth minute Oliver was unlucky not too score with an effort hitting the post and then rolling along the goal line to be eventually cleared by a relieved Bushey defender. A minute later with a great pass from Felipe, Ashley did open the scoring for Northwood with a fine finish to make it 1-1. The boys then went on the attack sensing that they had Bushey on the back foot, from one of our attacks the referee who was not having a great game in my opinion ,gave us a free kick about 25 yards out. Lewis Reid stepped up to take it and fired a great shot that looped into the far corner to make it 1-2 Northwood.

After another 5 minutes a good passing move saw Ashley put Oliver in this time he scored to make it 1-3 Northwood. The boys were now really on top and laying some great passing football. On the 30th minute again Ashley was put through and again he finished to make it 1-4. From the resulting kick off Ashley pressed the ball down nicked the ball from the Bushey defender and made it 1-5 Northwood. The first half finished with the boys coming in 5-1 up.

The second half started and even though we did not add to our tally in the second half our instructions to the boys was to manage the game and ensure that they won. Even though Bushey did get a goal in the 52nd minute the boys were never really in trouble and with some better finishing could have had 3 or 4 more goals. One of the most satisfying aspects of the game today was the way the boys kept their shape and discipline from start to finish. The boys are now beginning to show an understanding that off the ball runs/movement without actually receiving the ball helps the team. The game finished with the boys being well deserved winners and look forward to our next game against Hendon United Netanya next week.

Line up Rayyan, George Lewis Ryan Daniel Terry, Dec, Oliver Felipe Zaki Dan Jago, Lewis Reid Ashley
