Youth Reports 2015-16

6 December 2015

Parkfield "A" 8  Northwood Under 12s Red 1

The County Cup run that had seen the boys get into the last 16 came to an abrupt end with a 8-1 loss at the hands of Parkfield "A". This was always going to be a very stern test for the boys as there were playing against the current cup holders and a team who are currently chasing the treble.

The game did start very evenly with both sides trying to adjust to the quagmire of a pitch, but as Parkfield play on it every other week they did clearly knew to keep the ball out of the sandy bog in the middle. There were chances at both ends with Joshua and Ashley both going close for Northwood, who were holding their own until on 10 minutes when the deadlock was broken with a well-taken goal from Parkfield. As usual the boys were not dishearten by the setback and still carried on trying to get their passing game going but the conditions were not helping.

Both sides were having good chances on goal and Parkfield came close to a second from a good header from a corner. Again Northwood tried to play out of trouble but were sometimes getting caught in the mud and the moves were breaking down but again went close with a Lewis Reid effort. Parkfield broke quickly from a Northwood corner which saw them go up the other end and score their second on the 22nd minute.

Even though the boys were two-down they had not really been out played at any stage by Parkfield and were really competing well in every area of the field. After a Parkfield corner Northwood broke quickly out of defence and the ball got played quickly by Ashley into the path of Joshua, who beat two players and was through on the outcoming goalkeeper; he knocked the ball around him and then was seemed to be caught by the keeper and Joshua fell to the ground. The whole team appealed for what seemed like a certain penalty but the appeals were turned down. This did seem a bit harsh on the boys, but as ever we all accepted the decision and carried on. From the resulting goal kick the inevitable happened and Parkfield got their third right on the half time whistle.

At half time interval we told the boys that we were still very much in the game and the main difference was out of six chances Parkfield had scored three, whilst we had had four good chances of our own but had not taken any of them, so if they persevered we would score.

Again we told the boys that the next goal was going to be the crucial one as if we could get one back it could start to play on the Parkfield boys minds. Unfortunately, five minutes into the second half Parkfield again from a Northwood corner went up and scored on a good counter attack. Five minutes later Parkfield added a fifth and the sixth probably their best goal of the day came from an overhead kick from a corner. The boys had really lost heart at the fourth goal and even though in patches they did still show some good resilience and battle, Parkfield were well on top and scoring on nearly every attack and now were leading 8-0.

The Northwood consolation goal came from a good inter-passing move between Ashley and Saihaan that saw the latter run through with just the keeper to beat when the centre half brought him down and this time the ref did point to the spot. Saihaan brushed himself down stepped up and slammed the ball into the left corner 8-1. The game kicked off and the ref blew for full time.

Well, the Cup run is over but the boys did do so well to get to the last 16 in the County Cup and were just unfortunate to be pulled out against the holders who are a very good side - I wish them the best of luck in the Cup and the rest of the season.

Squad: Rayyan, George, Daniel, Lewis Ryan, Ashley, Ben Bambrough, Lewis Reid, Siahaan, Joshua, Ben Freeth, Declan, William.
