Uxbridge win Middlesex derby at Northwood

The Woods suffered a very heavy defeat in this afternoon's Pitching In Isthmian League South Central game at The Fenton Civil Engineering Stadium, Uxbridge smashing the home side with a 1-7 victory.

Northwood started the game in reasonable style, despite an early goal for the visitors, but some poor defending assisted Uxbridge in gaining a three-goal interval lead.

And things only got worse in the second half, as Uxbridge continued to find the net without too much resistance, and led 0-7 before Shakeel Morris' stoppage time consolation from close range.

The win took Uxbridge to the top of the table, with the morning's leaders Bracknell losing, but Northwood manager Ben Murray must contemplate his team's place at the other end of the league. The match report is here.

Northwood edged out by Marlow in game of cards

The Woods slipped to a single-goal Pitching In Isthmian League defeat at Marlow this evening, but the referee was kept busy on a night full of red and yellow cards. Both sides saw a player dismissed on a poor night for football.

Marlow still have a 100% record this season, with Mark Bartley's side still to concede a goal, but they can count themselves fortunate to maintain that statistic. The match report is here.

Excellent turnout for Pat Byrne memorial match

There was an excellent turnout yesterday at the memorial match for our former Club President Pat Byrne, who sadly passed away in April 2020.

The two sides were packed with former Northwood players who all wished to pay tribute to the great man, and all made a donation to the fund towards the cost of a memorial that we will be building at the ground in his memory. It was Byrne’s Northwood Legends against Pat’s Northwood Heroes, and there were a few members of Pat’s family represented on the pitch and at the club.

Here you can see James Brown's excellent photographs from the day:

The Woods go nap as they beat Staines

Northwood clinched their first Pitching In Isthmian League South Central victory of the season when they beat Staines Town at The Fenton Civil Engineering Stadium this afternoon.

And Ben Murray's side did it in style, romping to a 5-0 victory - despite being reduced to ten men with less than a half-hour on the clock! Joakim Ehui and debutant Adam Cash had put the Woods two-up before the red card

But that set-back didn't stop the Woods at all, with Shakeel Morris adding a third goal before the break, then Leo Decabo and Mo Sahnoun also scored towards the end of the second half, to put the seal on an emphatic win for Northwood! The match report and photos are here.

Woods lead twice - but go out of the Emirates FA Cup

The Woods' dreams of an Emirates FA Cup run are over for yet another year as Ben Murray's side slipped out of the competition this afternoon, when they were beaten 2-3 by Chichester City at The Fenton Civil   Engineering Stadium - despite leading twice.

Ismael Ehui gave Northwood a fifth minute lead with a neat finish, and although Chichester levelled, Gradi Milenge stabbed home to restore Woods' lead within three minutes.

But Chichester levelled again just past the hour mark, then Lewis Hyde's 83rd minute goal clinched their second qualifying round place.

The match report and photos are here.

Northwood youngsters bow out of FA Youth Cup

Paul Masters' Woods Under18s were unable to maintain their good start to the season as they crashed out of the FA Youth Cup at the first hurdle last night.

It was a tough away tie at Uxbridge that they faced and the home side took the lead on 16 minutes. But the Woods rallied well and they were level ten minutes later when Oscar John shot inside the post.

However, three further Uxbridge goals meant that they progress to the next round of the competition. The match report is here.
