Woods make it three wins in a week

The Woods chalked up their third successive Evo-Stik League South, East victor at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon - their best such run for almost exactly two years. They defeated Fleet Town 2-1 with a less than vintage performance, but the three points marked progress for the young Northwood squad.

Harry Newman stabbed home a wayward Lewis Ochoa effort to give Woods a 37th minute lead, but the visitors grabbed a deserved leveller on 63 minutes. And just when the game looked to be heading for a draw, Tayshan Hayden-Smith hammered home an 89th minute winner. The match report and photos are here.

Manager Simon Lane commented afterwards: "We will take three wins out of three this week, however they came. The group will learn lots about each other from this week." The full colour matchday programme is still available as a FREE digital download: click here for your free issue.

Local derby win for Northwood

The Woods hit back from an interval deficit to run out 3-1 winners in this evening's Evo-Stik League South Middlesex derby away to old rivals Hanwell Town.

Hanwell took the lead through Callum Duffy on 19 minutes, Evans Kouassi equalising three minutes into the second half. Kouassi also played a part in Woods' second, his shot rebounding from the home keeper for substitute Malondo Martin to net.

And Simon Lane's side wrapped up the points - and only their second away victory in 2017 - when a good, weighted ball from Martin found Jermaine Osei, who rifled home goal number three in the 82nd minute. The match report is here.

Three points for Woods on Pete Barry Day

After a disappointing run of results recently, the Woods got back to winning ways witha  3-0 Evo-Stik League South win against Aylesbury United at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon.

The result was a fine tribute to the late Pete Barry; the match had been designated "Pete Barry Day" in commemoration of the life of the Northwood committee member - and father of Chairman Ian - having passed away a year ago to the day.

Jermaine Osei was the man of the moment, as he hit a superb hat-trick - the first by a Northwood player for 11 months - to earn his side three well-deserved points, and the second clean sheet in successive league outings. The match report and photos are here.

Woods crash out of County Cup

Northwood crashed out of Middlesex Senior Cup this evening, being comprehensively defeated 3-0 by an AFC Hayes outfit that are struggling near the foot of the Combined Counties League.

The home side went ahead seconds before the half-time break then added number two very early in the second period; the third goal was scored just before the final whistle. The match report is here.

200 up for Brad Hewitt

Woods skipper Brad Hewitt chalked up his 200th competitive appearance in a Northwood shirt in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Bedford - congratulations to him!!

Brad initially joined Woods from Boreham Wood in October 2006, rejoining the club for his third spell last summer. The tall defender, who also played at Hemel Hempstead, Beaconsfield, Burnham,
Slough Town, Hendon, Biggleswade Town and Dunstable Town, has scored 22 goals for Northwood - though none this season - yet!

Woods take a point at Bedford

Northwood, with five players ruled out through injury, gave a dogged performance to take a deserved Evo-Stik League South point away at Bedford Town. The game at The Eyrie ended goal-less, with both defences generally in command and few chances at either end.

Jermaine Osei had a couple of half-chances in the first period, and Evans Kouassi and substutite Arash Abdollahi went close after the break, but Woods boss Simon Lane was happy enough with a point at the final whistle. The match report and photos are here.

Aylesbury United game designated "Pete Barry Day"

Northwood's next home game is on Saturday week, 21st October, when Aylesbury United visit Chestnut Avenue - and the date marks exactly one year since the sad passing of Pete Barry, a Woods' committee member and of course father of club Chairman Ian.

The fixture has been designated "Pete Barry Day", and a plaque will be unveiled as a permanent reminder of where he often stood at the club during games, whilst there will be a return for that match only of a printed matchday programme to commemorate and remember Pete.

Admission to the game will be "Pay What You Can", with proceeds going towards the creation of a memorial garden within the surrounding park. We hope to see you all there!!

Woods bow out of FA Trophy

Northwood got off to a flying start in today's Buildbase FA Trophy tie against Maldon & Tiptree at Chestnut Avenue when debutant Jermaine Osei put them ahead with just three minutes on the clock.

However, the Bostik League visitors equalised then scored twice more before Jermaine Osei headed in his second just before the break. But the Woods' hopes of a comeback were dashed when Maldon added two more goals in three early second half minutes to make the score 2-5, and so there was another early exit from the national competition for Northwood. The match report and photos are here.
