Woods to travel 960 miles in search of league glory!

The Woods will have round-journeys totalling around 960 miles this season in search of Isthmian League South Central glory, with an average one-way trip of 25 miles.

The shortest trips for Scott Dash's side will be 8 miles to Chalfont St Peter, ten miles to Hanwell Town and eleven miles to Uxbridge. Chipstead and South Park, both at 44 miles, will be Northwood's furthest journeys. All distances are measured from the AcreTweed Stadium.

Thanks to Steve Irving, who has done the calculations to provide these details; check out all the divisional mileages and map here.

New League name and new League Cup format

The Isthmian League announced at its AGM that Bostik would no longer be the League's sponsors. However, the announcement of the new sponsor (of all League's at Steps 3 and 4) would not be revealed until 1st July, so we must wait until then to know what our League will be called in the new season.

There will be a change to the format of the League Cup this season, with all 60 Division One clubs playing in ten regionalised group matches of six clubs (five games), with the winners of each group going forward to the knockout stage when the 22 Premier Division sides join in. There is prize money for each group winner. At the group stage, should any game end in a draw, there will be a penalty shoot-out to decide the winners and they will gain one extra point in the group.

New management for Woods' Under 18s

This season's Under 18s will again compete in the Isthmian Youth League, but will be under the new management of vastly experienced youth coach John Nolan, who will work alongside John Mangan from our own Northwood Youth structure.

There are open trials for the Under 18s taking place next Saturday in Northwood Park from 1.30 - 3.00 p.m.

Stepping down is Mark Fox, who has served the club well over many years in many roles, and he continues to work with one of the younger sides as well as assisting his brother David at Rayners Lane FC. We thank Mark for his excellent work.

The club was hoping to be running an Under 23 side this season, joining the recently-formed Middlesex County Under 23 League, but unfortunately that now looks unlikely as there has been insufficient interest in this league and despite extending the deadline for applying twice, there were just five clubs who put their names forward to join.

Northwood FC Signs Sponsorship Deal With Namesake Manufacturer

Leading manufacturer and supplier of “Away-from-Home” professional paper hygiene and wiping products, Northwood, has signed a two year sponsorship deal with Northwood FC, in a move set to help transform the fortunes of the ambitious club.

The family-owned, Telford-based company will sponsor the first team kit of the semi-professional Step 4 non-league senior club from Northwood, Middlesex. The team shirt will bear the logo of Northwood’s super-strength Rhino kitchen roll, sold within the Freedom range. The new funding will support Northwood FC in its ambition to acquire more top players as it strives to challenge for Step 3 promotion.

Said Northwood’s marketing manager, Paul Mulready “We were delighted to take the opportunity to support our namesake team, based not far from our Harrow operation, as it works towards becoming an even bigger and better club.”

Northwood FC Chairman Ian Barry commented: “I’m delighted to welcome ‘Northwood’ as our Main Sponsor for a minimum of two seasons. The deal recognises our own ambitions and importantly continues our link with a local company. As the club continues to move forward in all areas, the significance of this announcement bears resemblance to our determination to continue growing and we thank all at Northwood for their generosity and support and we all look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.”

Added Northwood FC club secretary, Alan Evans: “Sponsorships like this present clubs with a vital source of income, and we are particularly excited to receive the support of a company with strong local connections.”

London Samurai Rovers to groundshare

The club have agreed a new groundshare arrangement which will allow London Samurai Rovers FC to play their Middlesex County League fixtures at the AcreTweed Stadium for the 2019/20 season. Both Leagues approved the arrangement over the last few days.

London Samurai Rovers FC are expected to be playing in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County League at Step 7 of the non-League pyramid so will play around fifteen matches on Saturdays between September and April while the Woods are on their travels.

Our partners played in Division One (Central and East) of the County League last season and finished fourth, despite suffering a points deduction that would otherwise have seen them as champions. Offered the chance of promotion to the higher level should a suitable ground be found to play their home fixtures, we were happy to try to accommodate them after the departure of London Tigers FC in May. We look forward to establishing a good working relationship over the months to come.

Matchday Programme wins Isthmian award

Yesterday at the Isthmian League Annual General Meeting in Brighton the club was delighted that the Northwood matchday programme won the South Central Division Programme of the Year award, to add to the collection of prizes that the Woods' matchday publication has won over the years.

Amongst other news from the League AGM, it was announced that there will be new sponsors for the start of next season as Bostik depart. The new sponsors, however, will not be announced until July 1st, although it is said that the new contract is with a national brand.

Ground funding setback

Last week the club received something of a setback with regards to their funding bid through the Football Stadium Improvement Fund. Expecting to hear whether it had been successful or not, instead news came through that the application hadn't yet been considered due to tight deadlines, which we believed we had met. It will now be heard at the next session of the FSIF panel which is in August 2019, and we will keep you all up-to-date when we hear more.

While this is a blow as our plan was to get the majority of this work completed during the close season and have a refurbished stadium ready for the new campaign, we are still confident that that the funding will be forthcoming. We will of course have to complete the work more carefully as games will be being played but it is still feasible and we look forward to the challenge!

On the positive side, it now gives us more time to raise additional funds through our Go Fund Me project, which has raised over £6,500 so far towards our target of £10,000, with pledges of another £1,000 yet to come in. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far; people have been very generous but the club are still looking for anyone who can afford to donate, not matter how small, to help towards reaching the target which will ensure that we have our own contribution to add to the funding bid. IFAB law changes from next season

The International Football Association Board recently announced a number of rule changes which came into effect on 1st June 2019.

The changes have been rolled out across the whole of football, meaning that the Woods will have a few new laws to adhere to in the Bostik League in in the new season.

This is a summary of the rule changes:
Dropped ball - Laws 8 & 9
•           If play is stopped inside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for the goalkeeper
•           If play is stopped outside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for one player of the team that last touched the ball at the point of the last touch
•           In all cases, all the other players (of both teams) must be at least 4m (4.5yds) away
•           If the ball touches the referee (or another match official) and goes into the goal, team possession changes or a promising attack starts, a dropped ball is awarded
Free-kicks - Law 13
•           When there is a ‘wall’ of three or more defenders, the attackers are not allowed within 1m (1 yd) of the wall; an attacker less than 1m (1yd) from the ‘wall’ when the kick is taken will be penalised with an indirect free-kick
•           When the defending team takes a free-kick in their own penalty area, the ball is in play once the kick is taken; it does not have to leave the penalty area before it can be played
Goal celebrations - Law 12
•           A yellow card will be awarded for an ‘illegal’ celebration (e.g. removing the shirt) even if the goal is disallowed

Northwood FC Youth end an enjoyable season

Northwood Football Club runs teams from Under 6s right through to the senior Isthmian League side, providing a pathway for development for all young Woods players.

The Northwood FC Youth have all had an incredibly enjoyable season, with some great football having been played across all age groups. With all the league and cup games having been completed, and the Northwood tournament a great success recently, it is a good time to review the season.

It was a very successful campaign across the competitive age groups, with the Under 18 White team winning the Spring plate and topping their division, the Under 16 Black team winning the Middlesex County Cup, and Under 10 Red team winning their League Cup. Plus the Under 11 Red team ended up playing against Barcelona in an international tournament!! Well done to all involved!

Outgoing kit sponsor: new sponsorship now sought

The Woods are having to say goodbye to long-term senior kit sponsors Ruislip Windows & Doors, who have decided to step down after three years of involvement with the Club.

Company owner John Flynn said "It was always a dream of mine to sponsor the first team of a local club that I've had a lot of connections with and it's been enjoyable. But I'm going to be slowing down with the business and I feel that the sponsorship has run it's course now. I wish the club all the success in the future."

Our thanks go to John and his family for their kind and generous sponsorship over the last few years. It is a vital income stream for a club at our level and we now must turn our attentions to finding a new local Company to become a key partner that will support us with our ambitions to challenge for Step 3 football over the next couple of seasons.
