Woods score first and last but lose in derby

Northwood scored first and last in today's Middlesex derby Boxing Day clash at Hayes and Yeading United, but they succumbed to a 4-2 defeat in the Evo-Stik League South, East fixture.

Mahlondo Martin fired Woods ahead after just seven minutes, but the home side levelled in the 29th minute then went ahead with an unfortunate own goal just before the interval.

Hayes & Yeading netted their third from the penalty spot with eleven minutes left and made it four soon after. But Mahlondo Martin had the last word when he slotted home neatly in stoppage time. The match report and photos are here.

Three points for Woods against Hartley

The Woods earned three valuable pre-Christmas Evo-Stik League South, East points with a hard-working performance despite missing key players this afternoon, defeating Hartley Wintney 3-1.

Harry Newman converted a cross from Tayshan Hayden-Smith to open the scoring on 15 minutes, and Wilson Chingoka made it two in the 24th minute with an effort that the keeper got a hand to but couldn’t keep the ball out.

However, the visitors pulled one back just three minutes later, through Callum Eagle, and they had a chance to equalise from a spot-kick on 59 minutes, but a superb save from debutant Northwood keeper kept his side ahead. And with a few minutes left, the Woods were awarded a penalty of their own, and though the Hartley Wintney keeper saved Mahlondo Martin’s kick, the Northwood number ten followed up to score and wrap it up at 3-1.

Moneyfields defeat for the Woods

A goal in each half condemned the Woods to defeat in one of their longest Evo-Stik League South, East trips this afternoon. Moneyfields, based in the Portsmouth area, and promoted from the Wessex League last summer, ran out deserved 2-0 winners.

Gary Austin put the Hampshire outfit ahead on 31 minutes, Ian Hutchinson heading the second in the 75th minute. The match report and photos are here.

AFC Dunstable game is postponed

Today's Evo-Stik League South, East game against AFC Dunstable was postponed by the match referee as part of the playing surface was frozen following low overnight temperatures.

An earlier pitch inspection by a local referee had given the go-ahead, but the match official decided otherwise an hour before kick-off.

The game has been re-arranged to Tuesday 9th January, kick-off 7.45 p.m.

Northwood hit back to draw at Beaconsfield

The Woods recovered from an early two-goals deficit to draw 2-2 at third-placed Beaconsfield Town in an Evo-Stik League South, East fixture this afternoon.

The home side went ahead with a deflected shot on seven minutes, and another deflection a few minutes later made it 2-0.

But Northwood hit back on 35 minutes when Tom Gilbey stabbed the ball home after Mahlondo Martin’s free-kick was parried by the keeper. And on stroke of half-time, Isaac Olorunfemi slotted in Martin’s cross to level things up - and that was how it finished. The match report and photos are here.
