Two join the Woods

Two new signings for Dean Barker's Northwood squad this evening; left-winger Cameron Currie (pictured far left) was at Hendon last season and previously played for Ware, Cockfosters and Hertford Town.  Midfielder Luke Alfano (left) has transferred from Wingate & Finchley, and has also played at Cockfosters, Hadley and Hanwell Town.

Both players appeared in tonight's Northwood XI friendly at Merchant Taylors' School, in which the Woods team won 6-0 against FC Northwood, a new Sunday club; Ben Andreos 2, Ned Clarke, Keir Dickson, Antoine Akinola and Cameron Ferguson were all on target.

Woods' Under 18s were also in action this evening; they trailed 0-2 at Potters Bar in the Isthmian Youth Cup, and were pulled level thanks to two Femi Azeez penalties. However, the home side hit back to run out 4-2 winners.

Home draw in Emirates FA Cup

The draw for the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup was released earlier, and Northwood's reward for defeating Longlevens on Saturday is another home draw.

Woods will take on Kings Langley in the tie at Chestnut Avenue on Saturday week, 8th September, kick-off 3.00 p.m.

The sides met at the same stage of the competition four years ago, Northwood winning 3-0 in an away replay; since that time, however, Kings Langley have impressively progressed from the Spartan South Midlands League to the Southern League Premier Division, and a tough tie is ahead for Dean Barker and his squad. Bring it on!!

Woods crash in Middlesex derby

The Woods crashed to a disappointing Middlesex derby defeat at the hands of old rivals Uxbridge this afternoon, as Dean Barker's side went down 1-4.

Uxbridge had the edge in the first half, and twice made the most of Northwood defensive slackness to deservedly lead at the break.

Woods came back strongly after the restart, James Ewington firing home Kweku Lucan's great low cross after just thirteen seconds to give them a real boost. However, although Northwood dominated much of the second half they couldn't manage to find the net again. And a misleading slant was put on the scoreline when Uxbridge converted an 86th minute penalty and then added another goal in stoppage time - but, as they say, it's goals that count! The match report and photos are here.

It's a first Emirates FA Cup win in three years for Woods

Having suffered first hurdle disappointment in the past two seasons, this afternoon Northwood were 3-1 winners against Longlevens in an Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round tie at Chestnut Avenue.

The Woods went ahead on 15 minutes with an audacious shot by Ben Pattie over the keeper from 40 yards, and the second goal arrived two minutes into the second period, James Ewington finishing off a through ball from Wilson Chingoka.

The Hellenic League visitors pulled a goal back with a 68th minute penalty, but within six minutes Northwood leading scorer James Ewington was on the mark again to make it 3-1, confirming his side's place in Monday's draw. The match report and photos are here - the match highlights are on WoodsTV.

Build-up to Emirates FA Cup tie increases

On Saturday, the Woods make their entry into this season's Emirates FA Cup competition, and they take on Hellenic League outfit Longlevens at Chestnut Avenue in a Preliminary Round tie. The club are eagerly looking forward to the match in what is still the biggest cup competition in the world.

Northwood have started their Bostik League season with a 100% record after two games, whilst Longlevens have played five Hellenic League fixtures, with one win and one draw - although they have scored twice in each of the five outings; Woods' defenders clearly need to be on their mettle at the weekend!

As part of the cup-tie preparations, a Northwood XI played Southern Amateur League club Norsemen FC in a friendly yesterday evening at Merchant Taylors' School. Manager Dean Barker fielded a total of 22 players, giving them each a half, and the Woods XI ran out 5-2 winners; there were two goals apiece for Ben Pattie and new signing Ned Clarke, with Antoine Akinola also netting.

Woods take the points at FC Romania

Dean Barker's Northwood side collected three Bostik League points with a good 3-1 win away to FC Romania this afternoon. It was the first meeting between the clubs, and also FC Romania's first Step 4 match.

Jorome Slew put the Woods - wearing their new royal blue away shirts - ahead on 23 minutes with a fine 20-yard effort, but Romania drew level two minutes before the break when they won a spot-kick with an theatrical fall in the box, successfully converted by Gabriel Ghinea.

But Northwood increased their grip in the second half, getting stronger as the game progressed, before Jorome Slew restored the visitors' lead in the 80th minute. Then James Ewington fired home with his left foot from a difficult angle to wrap up the points with three minutes remaining. The match report and photos are here.

Manager Dean Barker said afterwards: "This was a fantastic win for us; we kept going right to the end and earned the rewards that our second half performance deserved."

Two more sign for Northwood

Woods manager Dean Barker has added two further signings to his squad today, and we are delighted to welcome Ned Clarke and Keir Dickson to the club.

Both players actually played for Northwood last season whilst on dual registration with Wingate & Finchley FC. Ned is a proflic striker who has bags of potential and has been on trial at League clubs during pre-season, whilst defender or midfield man Keir has also played at Barnet and Fleetwood Town.

A Northwood FC XI beat our Under 18s 3-1 in a practice match at Merchant Taylors' School this evening; there were two goals from Ben Andreos, with Antoine Akinola adding the third. It was a good work-out for both sides.

Woods are named Team of the Week

The Woods have been voted Team of the Week, following last Saturday's thrilling 4-3 victory against Tooting & Mitcham, having trailed by two goals with fifteen minutes left.

The Isthmian Show podcast poll attracted 1,074 votes - and Northwood won 32% of them, ahead of Aveley, Brightlingsea Regent and Hastings, so congratulations to the Northwood squad and management!

The Isthmian Show is broadcast every Monday evening from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm via Twitter and Facebook Live, and you can also catch up with the show via their podcast which can be found on iTunes.

Northwood away in County Cup

The draw for the new season's Middlesex F.A. Senior Cup competition was released today, and the Woods will play away to AFC Hayes - whom Dean Barker's side met during pre-season - in a first round tie.

More County news: the Northwood Under 17 Sunday team have been awarded the Middlesex F.A. Under 18 County Cup for 2017-18. They had been narrowly defeated in the final by Conquest FC, but the Isleworth-based club have now been ejected from the competition for fielding an ineligible player. Congratulations to the Woods players and management on this belated award!

Woods hit back for opening day victory

The new Bostik League season got underway in exciting fashion for Northwood this afternoon, finally edging out Tooting & Mitcham United 4-3 at Northwood Park.

James Ewington gave Woods a 20th minute lead but Tooting & Mitcham, just relegated from the Premier Division, hit back strongly and led 3-1 ten minutes into the second period.

But then James Ewington pulled a goal back on 76th minutes and three minutes later Northwood were level when skipper Carl Pearce headed home. And Ewington completed his hat-trick and clinched a memorable victory when he shot home from close range in the 89th minute. A victory full of character from the Woods team! The match report and photos are here.

Manager Dean Barker said: "What a great win, and a tremendous comeback from our boys against a top team. This is a game that will be remembered for a long time!" Post match interviews with Dean and James by Craig Whitehead can be found on WoodsTV.

Northwood will play at home to Hellenic League outfit Longlevens in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup on 25th August; Longlevens gained a single goal victory at Holmer Green today in the previous round.

Printed programmes are back at Northwood!!

After a year of publishing the matchday programmes digitally only, the club are pleased to announce that for the coming season, the printed publication will be back at Northwood!!

This has only been possible thanks to a very kind anonymous sponsorship, which will allows the club to produce them without making a loss - which the previous year was in four figures. Hopefully all those that told us they missed the printed programme experience on matchdays will support this venture by purchasing a copy at each home game!

The 36-page matchday programme will be on sale at Saturday's Bostik League opener against Tooting & Mitcham United, when copies will be available from the clubhouse bar and inside the ground, priced £2.50.

Woods hit four in final friendly

The pre-season campaign ended on a high note for Northwood as they defeated Aylesbury FC 4-0 at Chestnut Avenue this evening, ahead of Saturday's Bostik League kick-off.

The Woods went ahead on 15 minutes when James Ewington made the most of a defensive mix-up to slot the ball home, and just before the half-hour he notched the second following a great run by Karl Stevenson.

Jerome Slew fired home the third in the 71st minute, and twelve minutes later Adam Murad showed some neat control before shooting past the keeper to make it 4-0. The match report and photos are here; the goals can be seen on WoodsTV here.

The signings of goalkeeper Coalan Doyle, last year's Player of the Year Wilson Chingoka and defender Sam Tring, who had a spell with the club at the end of last season, were completed after the game, whilst also joining is former Sheffield United youngster Jerome Slew, who has played in the National League for Chester.

Woods lose in pre-season friendly

Despite taking a tenth minute lead through a Ben Pattie strike, the Woods slipped to defeat in today's pre-season fixture with Aylesbury United at Chestnut Avenue.

The Ducks equalised soon after, then took the lead early in the second half, before grabbing a third from the penalty spot just after the hour-mark.

Northwood were encouragingly creative throughout, but some defensive slips cost them, giving manager Dean Barker plenty of food for thought and a few areas to work on, ahead of the Bostik League kick-off next weekend. The match report and photos are here.

The competition will have new finalists this year, as both winners Billericay Town and runners up Metropolitan Police have moved on to pastures new.

The Woods received a bye in the Preliminary Round, and will play at home to Bury Town, of Bostik League Division One North, due to be played before 20th September.

Friendly victory for Northwood

The Woods ran out 4-1 winners in this evening's pre-season friendly against Combined Counties League outfit AFC Hayes.

Remarkably, Woods trailed at the break, despite having many chances - and two goals disallowed. But after the break, Northwood showed their quality and netted twice through Ben Pattie - one a penalty, with Rhys Shirley-Clarke and Jerome Slew also scoring. The match report and photos are here.

Next Tuesday's scheduled fixture against Boreham Wood has been cancelled, and the Woods will now play Aylesbury FC that evening at Northwood Park, kick-off 7.30 p.m.

Yesterday evening the Under 18s had a good 3-1 pre-season win against Harefield United, Femi Azeez (2) and Connor Maher on target.
