Northwood’s Under 18s played a warm-up match on the outside pitch at Uxbridge on Wednesday, but against very strong opponents, the scoreline doesn’t tell all. A goal down in the first minute to an own goal on a sweltering evening, the lads many of who were trialists put in a great effort but rarely had any luck.
Richard Elderfield was clearly taking the chance to take a look at a lot of new boys, and the result was never really in doubt. 2-0 down at half time to an own goal and a goalkeeping mix-up, the boys had battled well.
Richard rang the changes at half-time by taking Dave and Eric off and almost immediately Uxbridge made it 3-0. After this Uxbridge played some great one-touch football, but in the last 20 minutes the Northwood boys came back into it strongly and Eric Nyarko, who had come back on, scored a consolation goal.
This result was no disgrace, as Uxbridge I believe had a great season last year and their boys have clearly been playing together for some time. The season starts proper at Ashford Town on Monday 20th August.
