In what was one of the best team performances seen at Chestnut Avenue for a very long time, the young Reserves gave the champions Sutton United a finish to the season they didn't expect. The score somewhat flattered Sutton as the Woods could have scored more, but we will settle for a 4-1 scoreline!

Every man, from Mitch – playing two games on consecutive nights – right through to our last sub Danny Briggs, gave everything for the club. It started perfectly for the Woods, when Lawrie Walters ran onto a flicked pass from Andy Murphy and drove home in the third minute.

Sutton came back into the game and their No. 7 was a very impressive young player. It was he who broke away down the Woods left and from his cross the equaliser came on 22 minutes, when the No 10 fired home.

The rest of the half saw Northwood constantly attacking the Sutton goal, and both Murphy and Anton Lewis had good efforts saved. On 34 minutes, however, they broke down the dam and Lewis neatly lobbed the keeper from 12 yards to send the Woods in at half-time with a 2-1 lead.

It took only 12 minutes before Northwood put the game beyond Sutton's reach with two goals in a minute, the first by Andy Murphy ,who got off the mark by thrashing home a cross, and then Lawrie Walters drove home another good cross, this time from Tom Janssen.

Driven on by midfielder Scott Purdue, it was all Woods from then on, and the only team who looked like champions were Northwood. If  this young team stay together next season then Northwood's future looks very rosy indeed.

Man of the Match: Scott Purdue
