NORTHWOOD TAKE POINT FROM LEAGUE LEADERS
BEDFONT 2  NORTHWOOD 2

Northwood again raised level of their football to earn a surprising draw with Middlesex League leaders Bedfont, who trounced them 8-1 at home earlier in the season.

Leading in the second half, Northwood put up a brave display to win a point – precious to them whilst they are in the re-election zone.

But the result was not on the cards at the start when Bedfont subjected the Woods’ back four to wave after wave of attacks. And when they took the lead after eight minutes through a superb Georgie Hale shot the post it looked like the start of a goal riot.

However the goal served to inspire the Woods who, with Clive Hester back in the side after two months, gradually came back into contention.

After half an hour Northwood were level. Fittingly the scorer was Hester, whose first header from Harry Coulter’s corner was cleared, but he made no mistake with the follow-up.

A point would have satisfied Northwood, but not the home side, who again turned on the pressure right from the start of the second half.

As in the first period, though, the Woods gradually began to turn things their way and as they were doing so, they the lead. Harry Stone pounced on a long ball out of defence and left two Bedfont defenders in wake before prodding the ball home.

The home side never gave up, and pressed forward for an equaliser with tremendous character. Near the end they grabbed a second goal through Hale — a constant menace.

Northwood: M Gillon, K. Harland, J. Byrne, M. Blanch, N. Heslop, S. Pearce, H, Stone, P Clarke, H. Coulter, J. Vincent, D. Metcalfe. Sub: J. Vincent.
