MATCH REPORTS 1971-72

Saturday 4th March 1972
REVENGE IS SIX GOALS SWEET
NORTHWOOD 6  HANWELL TOWN 1

Northwood gained sweet revenge for their cup defeat two weeks previously when they romped away to an impressive Middlesex League victory on Saturday.

The destroyer in chief was Barry Wanless, who scored four goals.

Amazingly, Northwood's superiority was similar to that of the cup match but on this occasion the chances were taken.

Almost immediately Northwood attacked, and Hanwell had to set up a ten-man defence to subdue them.

However, once the wail was breached in the 20th minute through Wanless, Northwood really turned it on.

When Wanless was tripped on the edge of the penalty area he blasted the free kick wide of the defensive wall and into the net for goal number two.

Wanless was soon on hand to put Northwood further ahead after a skirmish in the Hanwell six-yard box and just before half time a thundering drive from Paddy Coburn went straight through the hands of the Hanwell 'keeper.

In the second half both Wanless and Coburn netted again.

Northwood:. R. Byrne, G. Harding, J. Myers, B. Gould, B. Taylor, W. Burt, I. Harvey, S. Pearce, S. Senior, B. Wanless, P. Coburn.
