NORTHWOOD OUTCLASS SPARTANS
NORTHWOOD 6  CROWN & MANOR RES. 1

Northwood proved too strong for Crown & Manor Reserves from the Spartan League on Saturday, and the game was far too one-sided to be entertaining. The Woods’ defence was rarely exercised, and the home keeper saw no direct shots for over an hour.

The Woods attacked straight from the kick-off, and although the strong wind and hard ground didn’t help good football, Harvey, Gould and Taylor were able to prompt with normal precision. The chances were being created and Horsford went close on several occasions before he finally put the Woods one up with a fine left-foot shot.
Within five minutes Northwood were two up following a fine move between overlapping full-back Harding and Horsford. It finished with the latter hammering home a great right foot shot. Several other near misses ensured, but the woods turned round 2-0 up.

In the second half Dibbens and Gould were pushed forward, and full-back Bailey was also prominent in attacks along the left with Pearce. Northwood’s superiority started to show in goals, when Horsford completed his hat-trick from the spot, and then Gould coolly netted from fifteen yards, having slipped past two players.
Harvey and Taylor both had their shots kicked off the line, and then Taylor hit the bar.  The visitors’ keeper saved three fine efforts from Dibbens, and the Woods’ pressure was truly reflected.

Northwood kept looking for goals, and shortly after Taylor had a 40-yard effort well saved. Dibbens then netted his first goal of the season. He trapped a square pass from Chick, and in the same movement, crashed a 20-yard drive in off the bar for a great goal.

Skipper Madigan, not to be outdone by his back-four partner, stole into attack, and hit a 25-yarder into the net. Crown & Manor managed to get a consolation goal, but by this time all the Woods’ defenders were trying to get their names on the scoresheet. The game produced a fair share of good play and some great goals for the spectators.

Northwood: R. Byrne, Harding, Madigan, Dibbens, Bailey, Gould, Chick, Harvey, Taylor, Pearce, Horsford.
